Course Information: The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) is pleased to announce the web-based National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) course. Protecting the critical infrastructure and key resources (CI/KR) of the United States is essential to the Nation’s security, public health and safety, economic vitality, and way of life. This course introduces the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP).
Course Goals and Objectives: The purpose of this course is to provide a foundation of knowledge that will enable participants to:
- Describe how the NIPP provides the unifying structure for the integration of CI/KR protection efforts into a single national program.
- Define CI/KR and protection in the context of the NIPP.
- Identify the relevant authorities and roles of NIPP security partners.
- Describe how the use of the risk management framework ensures a steady state of protection within and across the CI/KR sectors.
- Identify the risk management activities implemented by NIPP security partners.
The course also teaches potential security partners about the benefits of participating in the NIPP.
Audience: DHS and other Federal staff responsible for implementing the NIPP; State, local, Tribal, and private sector emergency management and homeland security professionals; and other government and private sector security partners who share responsibility for implementing CI/KR protection programs or who are interested in the topic.
Prerequisites: None
Course Completion: The course is available through the EMI Independent Study Website located at http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp. When you have completed the course, you can take the online exam, fill out the student information, and submit the exam for scoring. Upon successful completion of the exam, EMI’s Independent Study Office will notify you via email with a link to print your electronic certificate.
