Theory and Research

Co-leads: Lucia Velotti, Ray Chang

Brief Description

The Emergency Management Theory and Research (EMTR) SIG grew out of discussions at the 2016 FEMA Higher Education Symposium. That discussion led to a group intended to bring together researchers, academics, and operational personnel at all levels, interested in theory and research in emergency management, and provide opportunities for collaboration year-round.

Next Steps: Objectives, Projects, or Activities

Future activities for the EMTR-SIG include seeking out partnership opportunities in support of the objectives above. Some examples of these include discussions with the organizers of the:

  1. FEMA PrepTalks
  2. Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) alumni chapters
  3. The Journal of Emergency Management
  4. The International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters
